halogen bulbs could be banned by 2018

According to the energy conservation plan of the European Commission, halogen lamps can be banned for four years.
In the UK, millions of halogen lamps are sold every year, and half of households still have halogen lamps.
The commission said they should be replaced with more efficient compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs)
LEDs (LEDs).
Some LEDs and CFLs do not work properly with dimmer switches and wiring circuits for halogen lamps.
The Commission hopes to ban the use of halogen lamps next year, but it is working to reach a compromise until the end of 2018.
The lighting industry is pushing the ban to be postponed until 2020.
